QBS Recital

General Information
The recital is an exciting and empowering experience that builds confidence and is an essential part of our training process. It provides students the opportunity to learn about the theater, rehearsals, and teamwork while showcasing their skills in a professionally run production. Our 2027 Recital on June 5th, 2027 at the Lila Cockrell Theatre is a celebration of our students’ hard work, allowing families and friends to share in their achievements. We encourage all students, including our youngest and newest performers, to participate in this supportive and enjoyable environment.
If your child will not be able to perform on June 5th, 2027, please inform us as soon as possible so we may adjust class choreography and formations accordingly.
We would like to emphasize the importance of consistent attendance moving forward. Each class will now focus heavily on recital choreography, and regular attendance is essential for students to feel confident and prepared on stage. Choreography relies on consistent group participation, and absences can affect the entire class. While make-up classes are always available, please note that recital routines are not practiced in make-up classes. For this reason, we strongly encourage students to attend their regularly scheduled classes whenever possible.
If your child is unwell but able to attend as an observer, we encourage them to come and watch rather than miss out entirely.
Please notify us in advance of any absences by contacting the front desk at 210-535-4165. For students participating in the recital, Term 10 tuition must be paid in full in order to be eligible to perform. This requirement applies even if the student does not plan to continue at QBS after the performance.
Throughout Term 10, a portion of regular class time will be dedicated to learning and rehearsing recital choreography.
This is without a doubt the highlight of our year, and we are thrilled to show you how hard our dancers have been working!

Our first performance, Storybook, will begin at 10:00 A.M. and conclude at approximately 11:30 A.M.
Performers are required to arrive one hour prior to the performance (9:00 A.M.), fully dressed in costume, with hair and makeup stage ready.
Classes included in the Storybook performance are: Dance With Me, All Creative Movement Classes, All Dance & Tumble Classes, Mini-Tap/Jazz, All Pre-Ballet 1 and Pre-Ballet 2 Classes, Pre-Hip Hop, All Pre-Jazz Classes, Pre-Jazz/Tap, Pre-Jazz Funk, Competition Team 1, Competition Team 2 (jazz piece)
We warmly encourage our Storybook performers to return and enjoy the 2:00 P.M. performance featuring our upper-level dancers.
Our second performance, Études & Around the World, will begin at 2:00 P.M. and conclude at approximately 4:00 P.M.
Performers are required to arrive one hour prior to the performance (1:00 P.M.), with hair and makeup stage ready. Dancers should arrive in their first costume or have their costumes neatly packed in a labeled garment bag.
Classes included in Études & Around the World are: Ballet 1 through Ballet 6, Boys Dance Class, Acro, Rhythmic Dance Fusion, Breakdance, Character, Jazz 1 through Jazz 3, Hip Hop 1/Commercial Dance, Hip Hop 2/3, Contemporary 1, Contemporary 2, Contemporary 3, Competition Team 2 (lyrical piece), Competition Team 3
Ballet Levels 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are scheduled for an on-stage warm-up class at 12:30 P.M. and should arrive accordingly.
Rehearsal at QBS studio
Dress rehearsals and staging rehearsals are an essential part of preparing for our recital. These rehearsals allow us to see the choreography come together as a full production, ensure smooth transitions between dances, and make any final adjustments to costumes, spacing, and timing.
Just as importantly, rehearsals give our dancers the opportunity to practice performing in front of others, helping them build confidence, overcome stage nerves, and feel fully prepared for the excitement of recital day.
We kindly ask that all dancers attend their scheduled rehearsals, as each one builds upon the previous and plays a vital role in the success of the performance.
STORYBOOK REHEARSALS – (10:00 A.M. SHOW)
These rehearsals will help our younger dancers become comfortable with spacing, formations, and transitions on stage.
Dates: Saturday, May 2 and Saturday, May 9, 2026
Time: 12:30 – 2:30 P.M.

WHAT TO WEAR
May 2 - Dress Rehearsal - All costumes and accessories, including hair and makeup supplies (hairnets, bobby pins, bun pins, hairspray, tights, socks, hair ties, safety pins, etc.)
May 9 Rehearsal - in school uniform with hair neatly secured. (No costumes required.)
ÉTUDES REHEARSALS - (BALLET PRODUCTION)
These rehearsals are essential for coordinating multiple ballet levels and ensuring precision in formations, musicality, and transitions.
Dates: Wednesdays – April 29, May 6, May 13, May 20, 2026
Time: 5:00 – 8:00 P.M.
Classes: Ballet 1, Ballet 1A, Ballet 2, Ballet 3, Ballet 4/5, Ballet 6, and Boys Saturday 1:00 p.m. class
COMBINED REHEARSALS – ÉTUDES & AROUND THE WORLD (2:00 P.M. SHOW)
These rehearsals bring together different sections of the production to ensure smooth transitions and overall coordination.
Dates: Saturday, May 2 and Saturday, May 9, 2026
Time: 3:00 – 5:00 P.M.
WHAT TO WEAR
May 2 – Dress Rehearsal - All Around the World dancers should bring their full costume and accessories, including hair and makeup supplies (hairnets, bobby pins, bun pins, hairspray, tights, socks, hair ties, safety pins, etc.).
Etudes dancers do not need to bring costumes.
May 9 – Rehearsal: All dancers should wear their school uniform with hair neatly secured.
No costumes required.
What to expect?
All dancers (with the exception of Ballet Levels 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) are expected to arrive at the theater fully dressed in their first costume, with hair and makeup completed, ready for the stage.
To help ensure a smooth and organized backstage environment, we kindly ask that you do not send bags or water bottles backstage with your child. Our volunteer team must be able to focus fully on supervising the dancers. If your child has a costume change, please place all additional costumes and accessories in a clearly labeled bag with your child’s name on every item.
Parents are not permitted backstage at any time unless they are scheduled volunteers. Upon arrival, please check in your child at the designated sign-in table in the lobby of the Lila Cockrell Theatre. Once checked in, our trained volunteers will escort dancers backstage and remain with them throughout the performance.
For the safety and supervision of all dancers, once a child is checked in backstage, they must remain there for the duration of the performance. Dancers will not be released at any time during the show. This policy is strictly enforced to ensure a secure, organized, and distraction-free environment for all participants.
At the conclusion of the recital, all dancers will participate in the finalé on stage. Following the finalé, dancers will be dismissed by group in an orderly manner. We kindly ask that parents remain seated until their child’s group is announced. Once announced, please proceed to the lobby to meet your child.
The performance will be professionally photographed and recorded. Personal photography and videography are not permitted during the show to ensure the safety of the dancers and to maintain a respectful and distraction-free theater experience for all guests.
Backstage Volunteers
We are incredibly grateful for the support of our parent volunteers. Backstage volunteers play a vital role in ensuring a smooth, safe, and positive experience for all dancers.
Volunteer spots are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Volunteer Commitment
Volunteers assisting backstage for the performance are required to also attend Dress Rehearsal at the studio
Volunteers must be able to remain for the full duration of their assigned rehearsal and/or performance.
Backstage Safety Policies (Strictly Enforced)
No parents or non-volunteers are permitted backstage at any time.
No dancer may be released from backstage during the performance.
Volunteers may not release any child directly to a parent from backstage or dressing room.
Dancers must remain under supervision until officially dismissed by the directors.
These policies ensure the safety, security, and organization of all dancers.
Arrival & Check-In
A Volunteer Check-In Table will be located in the lobby of the Lila Cockrell Theatre.
Volunteers should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their assigned call time.
Upon arrival, you will receive:
A Volunteer Name Tag
Your dressing room assignment
Backstage Movement & Flow
Dancers will check in at the lobby.
Runners will escort dancers backstage to:
Meet their instructor
Complete a brief walkthrough
Dancers will then be taken to the dressing rooms (downstairs) to use the restroom.
Please ensure all dancers go at this time, as leaving during the performance will be very difficult.
Afterward, dancers will return backstage to prepare for the performance.
The backstage environment includes moving sets, technical equipment, and limited space.
Volunteers must maintain constant awareness and supervision for safety.
Dressing Room Responsibilities
Volunteers are responsible for all dancers in their assigned group.
Responsibilities include:
Assisting with costume changes and dressing
Ensuring dancers are ready and on time for stage call
Escorting younger dancers to the restroom
Keeping dancers calm, organized, and focused
Food, Drinks & Personal Items
No food or drinks (other than water) are allowed near costumes or while dancers are in costume.
Do not bring: Markers, Glue, Glitter or messy items
Quiet games or activities are encouraged to keep dancers calm and engaged.
Pre-Stage Check
Before dancers go on stage, please ensure:
Costume is complete and properly secured
Ballet shoes are on correctly (elastics tucked in)
Hair is neat, secured, and consistent within the group
Headpieces are properly placed and pinned
No jewelry (except small stud earrings if approved)
No nail polish, unless approved
Photography & Devices
No photos or videos are permitted backstage or during the performance.
Volunteers may be asked to put phones away to maintain safety, privacy, and focus.
Some dancers are not permitted to be photographed.
Dismissal Procedures
Volunteers must remain until:
All dancers in their group have been officially dismissed by the directors
Attire
Please wear dark, comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.
Your support helps create a safe, organized, and professional experience for all dancers. Your time, care, and commitment are greatly appreciated.
Shoes and Tights
For your convenience, required tights and ballet shoes are available for purchase at our Front Desk. We carry Weissman pink and tan tights, as well as pink Capezio Hanami ballet shoes for ballet dancers who will not be performing en pointe.
For detailed information regarding tights color and shoe requirements, please refer to our Costume Reveal Magazine.
We strongly recommend that dancers wear new tights for the recital, as older tights tend to fade and appear lighter under stage lighting.
Please also check your dancer’s bag in advance to ensure that shoes are clean and in good condition. Kindly note that we do not bring or provide shoes at the performance venue.
Hair and Makeup Requirements
Storybook
Make up for this group is, pink blush and eyeshadow, mascara (if they will let you!) and pink lipstick. We recommend Maybelline Super Matte Ink #175 Ringleader featuring a transfer-resistant and waterproof formula with a precise arrow applicator.

Around the World
Make up: Same as Etudes but they can have more fun adding face glitter, stones etc. talk to your instructor for ideas.
